Physical Therapy Services
Physical therapy treatments at the Center for Pain Management are part of the multidisciplinary team approach to patient care. This means your physical therapy treatment is part of your overall care plan which may also include interventional pain treatments, psychological counseling and medication management, for instance. Treatments are focused on managing pain and increasing functional capabilities.
Physical therapists work hand-in-hand with their patients to make sure treatment goals are met. Therapists are skilled in helping patients find relief from pain associated with low back pain, sports injuries, joint and soft tissue injuries, workplace injuries, or repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome – just to name a few.
What You Can Expect at the
Center for Pain Management
- As a new Center for Pain Management physical therapy patient, therapy typically begins with an hour-long evaluation with a physical therapist who will develop a plan of care to reduce your pain, restore function and get you back to actively living your life.
- Depending on your care plan and recovery goals, you may be prescribed a series of subsequent 45-minute one-on-one treatment sessions which take place in our therapy gym.
- Treatments typically include modalities for pain control and inflammation, and for increasing tissue extensibility. Modalities include moist heat, cryo (cold), ultrasound, iontophoresis and electrical stimulation. Manual therapy also is a part of most treatment plans. All therapies are performed with the goal of increasing range of motion and improving alignment and tissue mobility.
- Treatments may also include exercise. Often exercise is prescribed as a vital part of a patient’s recovery plan to improve range of motion, strength and stability. This ultimately results in a reduction in pain and increased function.
- Patients will be instructed and supervised in exercises performed in the clinic. Often, you will be assigned exercises to perform at home as well.
- Your plan of care may include the use of a brace or TENS unit which your physical therapist will prescribe for use outside of the clinic.
- Your chart is reviewed once or more per month by the team of providers including other therapists, physicians and a nurse practitioner who all collaborate to monitor your recovery status and assess the need for future treatments.
