“When I am working with patients, I focus on each of our areas of expertise. The patient is the expert on themselves and their life, while my expertise is helping patients change thinking style, actions, and approach to problems to help improve function and manage pain more effectively. With this approach, we can often find ways to improve patients’ daily lives beyond what medical interventions alone can do.”
Amanda Wakefield joined Center for Pain Management in 2018. She is a psychologist whose educational background includes a postdoctoral fellowship in chronic pain at James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital in Tampa, FL. She focuses on helping patients change behaviors that may be contributing to the severity and duration of their chronic pain. She also helps patients work through the anxiety and depression that often accompany chronic pain.
In her free time, Amanda enjoys reading, singing, and spending time with family and friends.
